'The Word' is out
Article Abstract:
Literary festivals have become increasingly popular and their numbers are inceasing, with 148 such festivals held just in the United Kingdom. Festivals may celebrate an author, or a class of author, such as mountaineers. Book festivals tend to receive little press coverage, and book sales are levelling off. Festivals allow ideas to be exchanged in a way that books cannot. Public debate can be promoted at festivals, and a literary community can be fostered.
