Leading Hong Kong corporations underwent major ownership restructurings in late 1996/early 1997 in preparation of the handover to Chinese rule. Victor Li Tzar-kuoi aims to restructure property company Cheung Kong and other companies within his father Li Ka-shing's empire. The family is believed to have profited well from the sale of its stake in Cheung Kong's subsidiary Cheung Kong Infrastructure Holdings for HK$20.44 billion to Hutchison. Larry Yung Chi-kin was one of the directors of Citic Pacific to purchase shares in the company from Citic Hong Kong.

This article focuses on the establishment of the Asian-Africa Investment Information Centre in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This project was presented at the Tokyo International Development Conference II (TICAD-II) held in October 1998.
