The dying of the little towns
Article Abstract:
Small towns in the Great Plains have been affected by the problems of agriculture such as blizzards, floods, drought and crop disease, as well as drops in grain and beef prices. The farmers often have college degrees and the families may have farmed for four generations over a century. Debt is a serious problem for many farmers. Ideas to improve conditions for farmers include diversifying into bison production, and setting up cooperatives to manage the whole of the production process.
