The dynamics of project performance: Benchmarking the drivers of cost and schedule overrun
Article Abstract:
Research, design and development projects often fail to meet cost and schedule budgets. It is argued that the failure to improve project performance is partly due to models that are not wholly representative of complex dynamic systems. Current planning approaches often do not consider rework, feedback and knock-on effects between work phases. Empirical evidence from 10 projects is presented.
