The importance of bid dynamics
Article Abstract:
The value of the UK acquisition and merger market in 1996 amounted to 56 billion pounds sterling, against 68 billion pounds sterling in 1995. Justification for such massive expenditure is assumed to be value gains for the shareholders of the acquired and acquiring, but evidence suggests that investors in acquired firms anticipate all the expected acquisition gains and may force a transfer of wealth from acquiror investors. An analysis of bid dynamics and its determinants is presented.
