The misty road to impeachment
Article Abstract:
Richard Nixon is a modern example of a US president who was impeached, and he resigned shortly after the process had started. Andrew Johnson was the subject of impeachment proceedings in 1868, but there was one vote too few for him to be dismissed. Andrew Jackson was a president who was censured by the US Senate in 1834. Ronald Reagan was accused of supplying arms to anti-government forces in Nicaragua, in defiance of official US policy, and his aides defended him by arguing that he had not been aware of what was happening.
