The president's disappearing friends
Article Abstract:
Questions are being asked about the future of Bill Clinton as president by his own party, the Democrats. Some New Democrats see Clinton's behavior as a betrayal of those who worked hard for him. An impeachment inquiry is unlikely to begin prior to Nov 1998, and Clinton may take a tough stand on populist issues. Public opinion polls give approval for his role as president and in maintaining a strong economy. Public opinion could be altered if more details are revealed about Clinton's behavior in the Oval Office.
