The protective landscape
Article Abstract:
Well-designed landscaping surrounding buildings have positive energy-saving and environmental benefits. Landscapers should take into account such things as local energy flow, ground water and wind movement. Energy-savings can be made by including shelter walls, pathways and fencing. Site levelling should be avoided as this destroys the topographic quality of the landscape. Protected landscape, such as woodland, can help to remove nearly 1 tonne of carbon dioxide per hectare per year from the atmosphere.
