The European Community and the United Nations have censured Yugoslavia's attacks on Bosnia-Herzegovina and have set up some sanctions, but there is little that can be done outside of armed attack to curb Serbian aggression. The threat of more severe sanctions had made the Yugoslav government more defiant.

The international sanctions against Serbia and Montenegro, imposed to protest the Serbs' effort to gain territory through ethnic cleansing, have had a strong impact on the Serbian economy. However, certain gangster-politicians, such as Zeljko Raznjatovic, are thriving under sanctions.

Into Bosnia
Article Abstract:
As the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina continues to degenerate, it becomes more obvious there must be intervention. The ethnic hatred in the Balkans goes back centuries, and history has shown that any peace-making efforts in the region would prove very difficult.
