The world in your pocket
Article Abstract:
Mobile phones are popular in Japan and can allow users to access the Internet, and even download songs for a mobile Karaoke machine. Mobile phones are even more popular in Finland, and there could be some 1 billion mobile phones world wide by 2004. They represent the fastest growing area in telecoms, and old-style telecoms companies are being drawn into this market. Mobile phones could have their biggest impact in poorer countries which could gain access to information through mobile phones.

Cutting the cord
Article Abstract:
Mobile phones have become increasingly popular as prices fall and quality improves.Increased competition has been a key force driving down prices, as is shown by the lack of progress in Latin America, where there is less competition. Technological innovation has also helped the development of mobile phones. Pre-payment has become increasingly popular, allowing parents to ration time spent on the phone by their children, and cutting credit risks for phone companies.
