Theme: cladding and curtain walling
Article Abstract:
Some 90% of building work is undertaken by specialist contractors, it is therefore important the most suitably qualified specialists are chosen by the main contractors on a construction project. It is hoped the use of partnering in building work will increase the participation of specialists much earlier in a project. Specialists in cladding and curtain walling can use their knowledge to advise on the most suitable type of materials for a project. Kawneer UK Managing Director Kelvin Goodacre points out they are able to design the most suitable system if they are involved from the start.

Theme: cladding and curtain walling
Article Abstract:
The UK precast concrete cladding industry has been experiencing a revival since the 1990s. Buildings using precast concrete are often finished in stone or brick. The UK building industry has benefited from the setting up of the Centre for Window and Cladding Technolgy although the curtain walling industry in the UK has yet to be firmly established. Only a very few British firms are able to undertake curtain walling work worth over 15 million pounds sterling. Architects and contractors find it difficult to obtain quotes for cladding work as estimates rely on very detailed information.

Theme: ceilings, partitions and raised floors
Article Abstract:
Construction industry specialists in ceilings, raised floors and partitions have not experienced any great advances in recent years. Their product development instead reflects a steady evolution. Metal panel systems continue to be be important in the suspended ceiling sector. Advances in these systems include chilled systems. Developments in raised flooring include solutions for deeper voids to accommodate maintenance requirements. Three major companies dominate the partition sector in which specification tends to relate to performance rather than product.
