Time to scrap NAFO!
Article Abstract:
Canada's federal fisheries department has presented a report on the mismanagement of fisheries by the Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Organization (NAFO). According to the report, due to NAFO's ineffectiveness the groundfish stocks near Newfoundland had dwindled considerably and needed to be replaced. The report suggests replacing NAFO with more powerful organization. However, Canadian federal ministers are not prepared to scrap the organization as yet and have suggested that reforms be implemented instead to make the organization more effective.
