Image-consulting has become a major business in Hong Kong, as seen in the lucrative business of Tina Liu, a thriving image-consultant who teaches businessmen, politicians, entertainers and the noveau-riche world-class etiquette. Tina Liu's recent assignment was the Hong Kong hand-over ceremonies to make it appear in good taste. Liu's services can cost HK$41,500 ($194)/person for group sessions on executive dress codes to HK$19,800 for a personalized fashion consulting session. Liu believes China still has not assimilated global cultural norms that are considered tasteful and world-class.

Laurent creates a niche by selling data on disks

Asia Studies Managing Dir. Clint Laurent hopes to capitalize on the growing need for economic and demographic data on Asia through the introduction of a new software called Asia Data Disk. The software is composed of four computer disks containing various information on Asia specifically designed for marketing officers' planning strategies for the region. Marketing personnel can purchase the software for about $550, rather than conduct their own research on Asian economics and demographics.

Fujitsu president claims lead in race to manufacture flat-panel televisions

Fujitsu General Ltd. claims to be ahead of its competitors in the development of the much awaited plasma display panels that will enable the manufacture of flat television and computer screens. The company announced that its version of the technology will be available after Nov. 1996.
