Innovations have resulted in the launching of new products to replace older ones that have also been recently introduced. The latest product launchings include Sharp Corp.'s LC-104S2 flat panel TV, Sony Corp.'s PLM-50 Glasstron head-mounted liquid crystal display monitor, Toshiba Corp.'s Libretto 20 palmtop computer and Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. Ltd.'s Woody Touch Panel desktop computer.

Toshiba takes lead in notebooks sales in Asia by focusing on quality, choice

Toshiba Corp. sold 108,000 notebook computers in Asia in 1995, marking a 44% increase over its 1994 sales performance. The company has displaced Compaq Computer Corp. as the top portable computer manufacturer and wholesaler in the region. The company credits its sales success to its strong support of the laptop computer market. Aside from manufacturing most of the parts of its laptop computers, Toshiba continues to develop a wide range of laptop computer models.

Toshiba once again tops market for portable PCs bought in Asia

Sale of PCs and laptops in Asia is dominated by Toshiba. The firm has held the top PC sales position for two years. Toshiba's products represent 18% of the nearly 953,000 notebooks sold in Asia, excluding Japan. The attraction of Toshiba's portable computers lies in its low price, advanced technology and the products' high regard for its users. Bulk of the purchases for Toshiba computers were made by institutions and businesses.
