Too much ado about global warming
Article Abstract:
Global warming has become a major international concern despite lack of evidence that it is happening and that the predicted effect will be catastrophic. Some of the resources being allocated to prevent the buildup of greenhouse gases could find more use in combating more pressing environment ills. Controlling greenhouse emissions is estimated to cost 3.5 percentage points of world gross domestic product, a sum that could be used to promote greater prosperity.

Beijing miscalculates on Dalai Lama's Australia visit
Article Abstract:
PM John Howard met with visiting Asian Buddhist leader Dalai Lama prompting Chinese government officials to issue threats of economic sanctions against Australia. The threats, however, only pushed Howard's interest in pursuing the meeting.

China clouded by greenhouse debate
Article Abstract:
A US Congress resolution supports the passage of a carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions treaty that may curb greenhouse gas emissions in China. As its population grows increasingly affluent, the Asian country is expected to become the world's leading producer of CO2 by 2015. China should be encouraged to exercise more environmentally sound practices.
