Top Gun for combat SAR
Article Abstract:
The US Navy established the Naval Strike & Air Warfare Center (NSAWC) in Fallon, NV, to offer search and rescue crews a standard training, coordination and communications between various commands inside the naval community. The NSAWC, which was based on the Navy Fighter Weapons School (Top Gun), is the product of integration of the Naval Strike Warfare Center, Top Gun and Carrier Airborne Early Warning Weapons School (Top Dome). The NSAWC employs four Sikorsky SH-60Fs in educating helicopter pilots and aircrewmen about the fundamentals in surviving rescue operations in combat situations, as well as about anti-submarine (ASW) and anti-surface warfare (ASUW).

Irish defence helicopter boost
Article Abstract:
The Irish Air Corps' helicopter fleet is expected to receive a major modification according to leaks from Ireland's Defence Efficiency Audit Group report, although the initiave may significantly affect the fleet's fixed-wing assets. The modification may involve the replacement of all the Air Corps' helicopter fleet, including eight Alouette IIIs, five Dauphins and two Gazelles, with four new still unnamed medium-lift helicopters and eight AS 355 Twin Squirrels. The possible acquisition of multi-engined medium-lift helicopters for the Air Corps will give the service sole responsibility for maritime SAR, which is currently operated privately.
