Toshiba, SanDisk allot $5 billion for Japan plant

Toshiba Corp. of Japan in joint venture with SanDisk Corp. of the United States are to build a semiconductor industrial in Yokkaichi, Japan. The flash memory manufacturing plant will cost approximately 600 billion Yen or $5 billion. The flash memory semiconductors are used in cellphones, iPods and other consumer electronics.

Sony, Qimonda establish chip venture: alliance will expand production of DRAMs for graphics services
Article Abstract:
Germany's Qimonda AG and Japan's Sony Corp. have created a 50-50 joint venture, Qreatic Design, that will focus on developing DRAM (dynamic random access memory) chips for graphics applications. The agreement's financial terms were not disclosed. The joint venture is expected to be operational by the end of 2007.

Nintendo's net rises, but sales show weakness

Nintendo Company Ltd. of Japan net profit for 2005 rose 13 percent to 98.38 billion Yen ($873.2 million) from 87.42 billion Yen last year. Sales at the consumer electronics giant were down slightly by 1.2 percent to 509.25 billion Yen. Revenues were due to gains from foreign exchange.
