Transition from cash dispensers to traders

Czech Republic: The member banks of Europay International released more than 2 mil cards in the country in 2000. The number is 129% higher compared to 1999. A total of 1.412 mil Maestro cards were issued in the Czech Republic in 2000, up 135% from 1999. A total of 596,000 Eurocard-MasterCard cards were released in 2000, up 116% from 1999. The number of transactions with Maestro cards at traders increased by 194% to CEK 2.199 mil and their volume rose by 216% to CEK 2.483 bil in 2000 compared to 1999. The number of withdrawals from cash dispensers with Maestro cards increased by 55% to 18 mil in 2000 compared to 1999. Their volume rose by 68% to CEK 40.706 bil during the same period. The number of all transactions done with Eurocard-Mastercard cards in the Czech Republic rose by 23% to CEK 17.543 mil in 2000 compared to 1999. Their volume increased by 168% to CEK 45.904 bil during the same period. Maestro cards can be used for the payment of goods and services at 11,600 traders in 2001, 58% more compared to 2000. There are 1,564 cash dispensers that accept Europay cards in the Czech Republic.

Konsolidacni Banka
Article Abstract:
Konsolidacni banka (KoB) (Prague, Czech Republic), state financial institution, expects a loss of CEK 75 bil in 2001 and a loss of CEK 50 bil in 2002. KoB controlled credits worth CEK 188 bil at the end of 2000. About 60% of the credits were classified. The bank excluded about 500 credits with a book value of over CEK 12 bil from its portfolio in 2000. The credits will be purchased by the investment bank Goldman Sachs for CEK 1.353 bil. KoB has started co-operation with Kamco (Korea), which is focused on similar activities and has an interesting know-how. Kamco controls bad assets worth over CEK 2,600.

Raiffeisenbank raises profit by a half
Article Abstract:
Raiffeisenbank Praha (RP) (Prague, Czech Republic), bank, plans to implement Internet banking in 2001, among others. RP saw a profit of CEK 17.7 mil in 2000, up 50% from 1999. RP's balance sum amounted to CEK 38.1 bil and its equity ratio was 10.28% in 2000. RP's general operating costs were CEK 693.4 mil in 2000. The bank saw total revenues of more than CEK 2.9 bil under interest revenues of over CEK 1.9 bil in 2000. RP's primary deposits amounted to CEK 18.9 bil in 2000. RP had 35,000 clients at the end of 2000. It has 500 employees.
