Tubular balls

While looking for buckminsterfullerenes in carbon soot, scientists discovered yet another new form of carbon that takes the shape of tubular corkscrews. These microtubes are found at the end of carbon rods electrocuted to form the soot. These microtubes may be as useful as buckyballs.

Butterfly balls

Newly published research papers show that genetically modified maize does not threaten wildlife populations. Maize which has been modified to contain an insecticide, the protein Cry, was not shown to have any more impact on monarch caterpillars than standard insecticides.

Researchers say increasing tourism in the Michoacan forest of Mexico may devastate Monarch butterfly populations. When the tourists tour the forest where Monarchs hibernate they trample brush which Monarchs must climb in order to be away from the freezing ground at night.
