UBS feels no pressure to merge

UBS AG chief executive officer Marcel Ospel said that his company is not being pressured to become involved in the expected series of cross-border European banking mergers. UBS was created in 1998 from the merger of Union Bank of Switzerland and Swiss Bank Corp. The banking industry in Europe is expected to see rapid restructuring and greater consolidation with mergers across borders.
