UCAVs for SEAD and strike missions prepare for takeoff
Article Abstract:
The US Defense Advanced Research Project Agency (DARPA) and the US Air Force (USAF) have awarded the contract for the first phase of the Unmanned Combat Air Vehicle (UCAV) advanced technology demonstration to four industry teams. The four teams, which received $4 million each for the ten-month Phase I, include Lockheed Martin Tactical Aircraft Systems, Northrop Grumman's Military Aircraft Systems Division, Raytheon Systems Company, and Boeing's Information, Space & Defense Systems' Phantom Works. Phase I covers development of a concept for a UCAV Operational System (UOS) and prelimenary design work on a UCAV Demonstrator System (UDS).

UAV missions augmented by completion of operations base
Article Abstract:
Camp Roberts has completed a base of operations for unmanned aerial vehicle flight activities. The base is near the US Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA. The case will enable the NPS-administered Center for Interdisciplinary Remotely Piloted Aircraft Studies (CIRPAS) to make unmanned flight operations over Hunter-Liggett military reservation for UAV missions. The missions include sensor test and evaluation, as well as development of a Navy UAV Concept of Operations. Flights will be made through two unique aircraft provided by General Atomics Aeronautical Systems and operated by CIRPAS.

Company stands by for US Navy supply helicopter deal decision
Article Abstract:
Kaman Aerospace Corp is one of the leading bidders for the US Navy's $30- million Military Sealift Command Vertical Replenishment program. The company is offering its K-MAX single-seat vertical medium-lift helicopter for the VERTREP program. Kaman said that K-MAX can lift 6,000 lb (2,722 kg) external loads at temperatures of more than 42 degrees C. The helicopter has a lift capability of 5,000 lbsx at a density altitude of 8,000 ft (2,400 m).
