UK: COVENTRY BS CHARGES LOWEST INTEREST

Over the past three years, UK based Coventry Building Society has charged established borrowers the least interest according to a Moneyfacts' survey. Compared with Bank of Ireland at the bottom of the table, Coventry BS charges GB[pound] 1262 less on average between 1 July 1997 to 30 June 2000.

UK: NEWCASTLE BUILDING SOCIETY ATTRACTS SAVINGS

Newcastle Building Society has attracted GB[pound] 160mn since launching its Internet savings account in June. It will resell it to smaller rivals. Net savings now make up 11% of all deposits. Half-year profits rose 8% to GB[pound] 5.3mn and gross lending by 18%.
