UK: Life offices concerned over Treasury proposals

The Treasury's Savings and Assets For All consultation paper, which proposes to increase savings among lower earners and children, could confuse consumers, say life offices. The proposed products, the Savings Gateway and the Child Trust Fund, could add to the market's complexity and damage take up of stakeholder pensions and ISAs. However, despite their concerns, providers have praised the consultation paper's aims.

Cat-marked products run the risk of reducing consumer choice, say product providers. Scottish Widows says that Cat-marked ISAs have been shown to have limited appeal and could distort the market, leading to the exclusion of more sophisticated offerings, in its response to the Sandler review.
