UK: SCOTTISH EQUITABLE REFUTES PREMIUM RISE FOR AIDS
Article Abstract:
HIV is not as great a problem as anticipated and is unlikely to have an impact on premiums, according to the Scottish Equitable chief underwriter, Matt Rann. A 40% increase in HIV-positive diagnoses is forecast for 2000-2003, reaching 29,000 cases, but this is minimal when the figures are compared with heart disease and cancer victims. Those who have been tested HIV-positive are not allowed cover as at the end of 2000, but the Association of British Insurers is reassessing its code of practice on the matter.

UK: Skandia attacks RCS over critical illness row
Article Abstract:
The Royal College of Surgeons (RCS) has been criticised by Skandia in a dispute over the company's critical illness policies. One Skandia customer is taking his case to the Ombudsman after Skandia refused to pay his claim for cancer. The company says his claim is not covered by the policy because he had skin cancer. A RCS expert has said that the tumour, a dermatofibrosarcoma, was not a skin cancer and should be covered by the policy.
