UK: QCA CALLS FOR LISA

The Quoted Companies Alliance (QCA) is calling on the British government to introduce a long-term individual shareholder account (Lisa), which would enable the tax-free investment of GBu 70,000 over ten years. It is argued that the move would benefit equity investment and smaller quoted companies.

The UK Financial Services Authority anticipates a participation rate of 90% among investment houses on its equity Isa table, due to go online in September 2001. Of 100 companies contacted, 54 have responded, with 30 planning to supply information, and three refusing to participate.
