UK: VANGUARD PLANS EUROPE RETAIL INVESTMENT FOR 2001

Vanguard, the second largest US mutual fund company, has announced plans to enter the UK retail market in 2001 through the IFA channel to launch its retail investment presence in Europe. It currently has a European presence in the institutional and pensions market. Vanguard is looking to reach the UK individual investors through their financial intermediaries, according to a company spokesman, although details of the offerings have yet to be revealed.

UK: F&C PLANS WITH-PROFITS FUND

F&C, formerly Foreign & Colonial, is seeking regulatory approval for its planned With Profits fund, which is expected to be launched through an open ended investment company fund in October 2001. The fund will invest in low-risk investments, with up to 60% likely to be invested in equities and 40% in fixed interest securities. It will play a guaranteed bonus at maturity and have a 10-year life.
