UK economy
Article Abstract:
The UK economy has continued to perform more strongly than anticipated during 1999. Manufacturing sector output has recovered, while the housing market has been buoyant and exports have expanded again. There are no signs of extensive upward pressure on prices for goods and services. However, the Monetary Policy Committee is likely to raise interest rates again, and interest rates could reach between 6% and 6.5% by the middle of 2000.
