U.K. to review bids for Northern Rock
Article Abstract:
UK regulators are reviewing proposals for assuming leadership of mortgage bank Northern Rock PLC. Interested parties include US private equity company J.C. Flowers and Company L.L.C., a consortium headed by Virgin Group Ltd., and a firm led by former UBS Ag executive Luqman Arnold. The UK Treasury and Bank of England have provided emergency funding to Northern Rock, which may need to continue even if a deal is made.

EMI buyout approach raises chance of breakup
Article Abstract:
EMI Group PLC of the United Kingdom has received an acquisition bid offer from Permira Advisers Ltd. also of the United Kingdom valued at approximately 2 billion Pounds ($3.9 billion). Shares in the recording giant are up by 10 percent to 289.5 Pence, giving the company a valuation of approximately 2.3 billion Pounds. EMI Group PLC is the third largest music company in the world.
