United Kingdom ponders JWID payoffs and policies
Article Abstract:
Industry and military representatives of the UK to the1998 Joint Warrior Interoperability Demonstration (JWID) multinational coalition and command-and-control exercise have been evaluating their strategy in joining the event held on July 13-31, 1998. Representatives from the most senior military levels suggested UK participants should consider adopting the strategy of their US counterparts, which call for equipment demonstration for a year and alternating it with a year of exploitation. UK's entry to the 1998 JWID, however, retained its doctrinal operations concept development focus.

Active-array ballistic missile defense radar unveiled
Article Abstract:
British Aerospace Defence Ltd has been developing a range of extended air and ballistic missile defense radars based on its active-array Sampson naval radar and MESAR2 ballistic missile defense (BMD) system. The latter version of the radars can offer hemispherical BMD surveillance and tracking capability, while the smaller types have staring BMD coverage over narrower arcs. The company's early warning and control system, introduced in Sep 1999, is considered to be a viable candidate for the NATO's new-generation E-scan radar needs.
