REPLACEMENT MARKET KEEPS ALL UNITS GOING

Demand from the replacement market has ensured that the plants of commercial vehicle manufacturer Ashok Leyland Ltd are working in full capacity. The company's Ennore and Hosur units have reverted to six-day work schedules to meet the increasing demand. The company had reduced production of vehicles by 28.3 percent during the first nine months of 1998-99 but expects output to be 10,000- 11,000 vehicles during the last quarter of 1998-99. (khr)

MMTC EXPORTS TO CHINA SET TO GROW BY 65%

Mineral exports from MMTC Ltd to China are expected to increase by 65 percent in 1998-99 over 2.5 million tonnes in 1997-98. MMTC has been able to capture a 5 percent market share in China despite a 11 percent fall in global prices of iron ore and stiff competition from Brazil and Australia. (khr)
