KERALA PLANTERS AGAINST IMPORTS FROM SAARC NEIGHBOURS
Article Abstract:
The Association of Planters of Kerala (APK) has urged the Government of India not to permit import of tea from Saarc nations. It wants the Government to restrict the imports until these nations allow free export of Indian tea. APK feels that the Government's decision could result in a fall in tea prices below the remunerative level and import of sub-standard tea. In 1997, the tea exports from India were around 203 million kg, worth Rs1,731 crore. (ag)
