UREA RECORDS IMPORT-STOPPING PERFORMANCE
Article Abstract:
Urea production increased to 185.96 lakh tonnes during 1997-98. This is due to increased production by public sector units. This has reduced the demand-supply gap in the fertiliser market and reduced imports. The average capacity utilisation increased to 105.1 percent. The market demand for urea has increased to 200.08 lakh tonnes. Around 15 lakh tonnes of urea was imported. The public sector units produced 60.07 lakh tonnes of urea in 1997- 98 (47.30 lakh tonnes in 1996-97). The co-operative sector produced 46.24 lakh tonnes (34.62 lakh tonnes) while the private sector produced 79.65 lakh tonnes (74.28 lakh tonnes). (gsh)
