Birds have the ability to see more, richer colors than humans because they have four color receptors instead of three. Two sets of researchers are examining the vision of starlings with and without ultraviolet light to determine how the light affects their behavior and survival.

Lasers are being used increasingly to correct refractory problems in eyesight caused by poorly shaped corneas. The excimer laser has been proven effective in treating conditions such as myopia, and it awaits approval by the Food and Drug Administration.
