Unilever buys Reckitt & Colman's U.K. food business

Reckitt & Colman's United Kingdom drinks and food division, Colman's of Norwich, is being acquired by Van den Bergh Foods, the food unit of Unilever, for $400 million cash. OK sauces, Jif brand citrus juices and all Colman's brand name mustards, condiments and dry sauces are included in the purchase, with these products having $96 million combined annual sales. Colman's Robinsons soft drinks will be sold by Unilever for $165 million to Britvic Soft Drinks, operated by brewer Bass of the United Kingdom. Van den Bergh has $1.2 billion annual sales in the United Kingdom.

Goldman Sachs wins plaudits for Colman's sale

Mustard, sauces and soft drinks company Colman's of Norwich, United Kingdom, has been sold by Reckitt & Colman to Anglo-Dutch company Unilever for 250 million pounds sterling. Investment banker Goldman Sachs has been applauded by its competitors for its involvement in the sell-off. The Robinsons soft drinks business of Colman's of Norwich will be sold by Unilever for 103 million pounds sterling to Britannia Soft Drinks, a subsidiary of beverage and brewer Bass of the United Kingdom.
