Polish para-urbanisation: residential sprawl within the urban-rural fringe
Article Abstract:
A study of the interface between town and country at the outskirts of Polish cities revealed unplanned development arising as a side effect from past policies, and which has created problems for planners. Polices which resulted in this development include collectivisation of farmland, and policies aimed at promoting heavy industry in Poland. With urban housing being scarce settlement on the outskirts of cities was chosen as a solution by migrants from rural areas.
