Using the generalized assignment problem in scheduling the ROSAT space telescope
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to show that a relaxation of the ROSAT satellite born X-ray observatory scheduling problem can be characterized as a generalized assignment problem. A data set was utilized to formulate the problem. The set included objects supporting different lengths, priorities, visibility intervals, and country codes. The relaxation problem was then determined as an integer linear program. In addition, estimated adjustment times were considered to enhance the quality of a schedule generated by heuristics.

On stochastic machine scheduling with general distributional assumptions
Article Abstract:
A class of single machine stochastic scheduling problems is considered wherein the distributional theories about processing and machine breakdowns are not known. The availability of the machine and its downtimes are accounted for using an optimal permutation policy. The analysis extends assumptions of existing literature which hypothesize that uptimes of machines and job processing times are exponentially distributed.
