VISION PLAN TO PERK UP POWER SECTOR INKED
Article Abstract:
The Indian power ministry has chalked out a vision plan for the power sector. The plan aims at generating an additional capacity of 80,000 mega watts during the next 10 years. It also proposes to improve the thermal-hydel mix and the plant load factor. It also proposes to boost private sector participation in generation, transmission and distribution of power. The power ministry will also launch availability tariff, the energy conservation bill and a cess bill. It will also make changes will be made to the Electric Supply Act. (ag)

KARNATAKA TO SET UP POWER REGULATORY COMMISSION
Article Abstract:
Karnataka will set up an independent power regulatory commission as a part of its power sector reforms package. The package also involves restructuring the Karnataka Electricity Board and privatising distribution of power. A legislation to enable the formation of the regulatory commission is to be proposed by the state government in the legislature session, scheduled to be held in November 1998. (khr)
