VNU is set to get group's firm bid; face-off is likely

VNU N.V. of the Netherlands, a giant publishing and market research company is on the block. A consortium of seven private-equity companies is to make a firm bid of approximately 7.2 billion Euros ($8.6 billion). VNU N.V. consists of Nielsen Media (television-ratings research service), AC Nielsen (market research firm), Billboard magazine and the Hollywood Reporter.

VNU urges shareholders to reject alternate plan
Article Abstract:
VNU N.V. of the Netherlands is urging its shareholders to not accept an alternative plan for financing from Knight Vinke Asset Management that would not create as much revenue and would invite "management turmoil." The original plan is to approve a $9 billion buy out of the publishing company.

Private-equity group offers $8.9 billion to acquire VNU
