Thomson Multimedia, Microsoft agree to put software in TV sets
Article Abstract:
Thomson Multimedia, one of the world's leading manufacturers of television sets, will put Windows CE operating systems inside its TV sets under an agreement with Microsoft Corp. By putting the software inside popular TV brands such as Saba in Europe and RCA in the US, Thomson hopes to build a critical mass that will usher in the age of so-called enhanced TV, or eTV. In addition to providing traditional broadcast and cable programming, eTV will offer simple e-mail and simple interactive services, said Frank Dangard, executive vice president at Thomson.

TRW agrees to acquire LucasVarity for $7 billion
Article Abstract:
The board of LucasVarity PLC has agreed to an offer by TRW Inc. to be acquired for $7 billion in cash. Federal-Mogul Corp. also has signalled it is considering making a higher bid for LucasVarity PLC. But industry analysts have said that Federal-Mogul, which recently has been searching for new acquisitions, is not expected to top TRW's offer. Analysts have speculated that the high price of the merger between LucasVarity and TRW has been spurred by a wave of consolidation in the lucrative auto parts industry.
