Variance of throughput of an N-station production line with no intermediate buffers and time dependent failures
Article Abstract:
An analysis of the variance of the throughput of an N-station production line with no intermediate buffers and time dependent failures was shown to be a function of the system's reliability. Variance of the throughput was studied by determining the limiting variance of the total residence time in a specific state of an irreducible recurrent Markov process. This validates the observation that variance in throughput is affected by the number of stations in the line.
