Veto on US privatisation
Article Abstract:
The US is not interested in privatizing air traffic control services unlike Canada, which has outsourced air traffic control to the privately- owned Nav Canada. Advocates of privatization cite a number of advantages, ranging from freeing governments from the obligation of allocating funds for these services, to non-interference by non-aviation-minded legislators. However, the US Congress is stronly opposed to privatization due to its reluctance to relinquish control over funds allocated for the modernization of air traffic services.

WAAS still in demand
Article Abstract:
The Independent Review Board appointed by FAA Administrator Jane Garvey has released a report on the FAA's Global Positioning System Wide Area Augmentation System(GPS-WAAS). The report states that although many technical difficulties have been overcome by the proposed system, a lot of groundwork must be covered if the GPS-WAAS is to achieve its purpose as part of the US National Airspace System. The board's recommendations set out to ensure that the system can meet its original goals.
