Vietnam banks worry lenders
Article Abstract:
Foreign investors and bankers are worried about the commitment of Vietnamese private and state banks, after some refused to honor loan guarantees. The banks are issuing statements that are making foreign investors and bankers lose confidence in Vietnam. Some banks say that they will not pay until their own debtors pay. One bank, Viet Hoa Joint Stock Commercial Bank, said it has lost the documentation on $1.8 mil in loans it took from Shinhan Bank of South Korea. Such actions by the banks can compound Vietnam's already severe liquidity problem.

Hanson's new 'legitimacy' may become mainstream
Article Abstract:
The remarkable role of Pauline Hanson's One Nation Party in Queensland, Australia has transformed the country's political structure. Her mindless anti-Asianism and aboriginal-bashing are a menace which are expected to divide Australian society and render connections with the region more problematic. Hanson garnered 25% of the vote in the elections on June 13, 1998, rendering more trouble since it came at the expense of Prime Minister John Howard's party.
