Visual/audible indicator aids mine-countermeasures exercises
Article Abstract:
Australian Defense Industries has received a contract to provide the Royal Australian Navy with a training aid that offers greater realism and situational awareness during mine-countermeasure exercises. The system, called VISEM, is based on an underwater flare launcher that works as a visual and audible indicator to surface vessel crews. VISEM will be used in tandem with the widely used Stonefish exercise mine. With VISEM, a streamlined payload, which releases a flare and gives off three loud reports upon reaching the surface, is released when a ship hits an exercise mine.
