Viviendi expands into Malaysia with stake in water company

Vivendi SA has acquired a 26% stake in Intan Utilities of Malaysia in a deal worth 144 million French francs. The move by the French utilities and media company has resulted in the securement of a 26-year concession to supply water to the 600,000 residents of Perak, Malaysia. Daniel Caille, chairman of Vivendi's water unit Generale des Eaux, stated that the purchase followed after Vivendi spent 390 million French francs to secure a similar concession in Parana, Brazil. Caille stated the Vivendi has the capacity to allot as much as one billion French francs annually.

Suez Lyonnaise to buy out minority holders in units

Suez Lyonnaise des Eaux SA announced that it is planning to buy out its minority stockholders in two of its units. One of the units is Tractebel SA. The buyout will entail a cash and share transaction worth 7.5 billion euros. Suez will also carry out a buyout of minority shareholders in Sita SA in a deal valued at 870 million euros. The buyouts are intended to strengthen Suez as it embarks upon a more aggressive expansion strategy.

Suez Lyonnaise and Europatweb to form alliance

Suez Lyonnaise des Eaux SA will form an alliance with Europatweb, the Internet investment unit of French luxury goods magnate Bernard Arnault.
