WHITE GOODS FIND GROWTH IN PRICING
Article Abstract:
The Indian white goods market saw heavy price slashes during 1998. This resulted in higher sales of the products. In the colour TV markets, a 20-22 percent price cut resulted in a 45 percent to 50 percent growth of the segment, with two million sets sold during the year. Washing machines and refrigerators established a 17 percent and 22 percent growth. Aiwa's new marketing techniques helped it to achieve a record turnover of Rs40 crore in the premium audio segment. BPL also slashed its prices to expand its market. In case of refrigerators, Whirlpool stole the show with its marketing promotion activities. It increased its sales from 200,000 units in April- September 1997 to 320,000 units in April-September 1998. (um)
