Whitby looks to technology for city protection
Article Abstract:
The Urban Design Alliance's annual conference dealt with the threat of terrorism on cities. City-protection systems were discussed. Most speakers condemned cul-de-sacs and advocated a return to more humane cities with an emphasis on public art, seating and the eradication of painted lines.

Tutors angry at urban design snub
Article Abstract:
The Urban Design Group refused to hand out cash awards to students who submitted work to this year's exhibition because it felt none of the designs were worthy. Urban design tutors from around the country were incensed at the decision and have written letters of complaint.
