Who will steer the Titanic? Despite the sound and fury generatd by pro-EMU Conservatives, they have lost the battle for control of the Tory party
Article Abstract:
Control of the Tory Party is in question as leader William Hague faces protests from members opposed to his anti-European unity policies. Members of Hague's own team resigned in fall 1997 over his opposition to the European economic and monetary union. Hague is strong in his resolve to keep the UK from supporting any European monetary union, and is willing to lose more members. The resignations are having less effect than they might because the members are not organized into a single movement.
