Winning at last?
Article Abstract:
Russia appears to be making progress in its war in Chechnya, and appears nearer to capturing Grozny, the capital, and symbolic of resistance in Chechnya. Russian forces have more problems in tackling Chechens in mountain retreats, though they are elite forces. There could be several months of guerrilla warfare, especially if Chechen forces manage to travel from Grozny to the mountainous parts of Chechnya. Chechen refugees face difficult conditions, and the behavior of Russian occupying forces does not endear them to Chechnes.

Death and inglory in Chechnya
Article Abstract:
The war in Chechnya, Russia, focuses on Grozny, the capital, Vedeno, a key town, and the area from Grozny to the mountains in the south. Russian forces are poorly trained and led, though there are more of them than there are Chechens. There are differing accounts of losses, but Russians are being shot at when they venture into Grozny. There are problems with holding territory where rebels can hide, and treatment of Chechen civilians has become harshe, especially for males from 10-years-old to 60-years-old.
