Yukos puts Putin in quandary

The OAO NK Yukos back-taxes case before the Russian courts raises questions concerning the structure of the Russian government and sends mixed signals to the global business and political community. In talks with former Prime Minister Jean Chretien of Canada and President Jacques Chirac of France, President Vladimir Putin was willing to save OAO NK Yukos, however a string of new back-tax cases against major companies have since emerged.

Yukos ex-managers face probe over foreign assets

OAO NK Yukos of Russia, facing bankruptcy proceedings, has had four former managers charged with fraud. The four are accused of stripping the petroleum companies foreign assets under the guise of two Dutch companies.

Putin dismisses idea Yukos probe driven by politics

Russian President Vladimir Putin denied accusations that the ongoing investigation into OAO Yukos is political in nature. Putin said that Russia's stock market has returned to near record levels.
