Biotech moves in at Navy Base
Article Abstract:
AppTec Laboratory Services, in its 75,000-square-foot facility, has helped its 600 clients take new medicines from the earliest laboratory testing through manufacturing for the required clinical trials and finally to market. These services have entered the pharmaceutical manufacturing business in a new building at the old Philadelphia Navy Base and it is hoped that the plant would launch a biotechnology complex in South Philadelphia.

News that maker hid Vioxx data sinks stock 10%
Article Abstract:
Shares of Merck & Co. Inc, one of the world's largest drugmaker has declined more than 10% on November 1, 2004 after its withdrawal of its arthritis drug, Vioxx due to lawsuits filed against the company over Vioxx. Vioxx was consumed by about 20 million Americans and had produced 11 percent of Merck's total revenue.

Non-approved prescriptions' woes in focus

Pfizer Inc., marketed its epilepsy drug Neurontin without any approval from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Pfizer agreed to pay $430 million in criminal and civil penalties to federal and state agencies because of unapproved Neurontin by FDA.
